FOSTERING A COLLABORATIVE COMMUNITY
The Pekin Area Chamber of Commerce presented a special leadership conference focused on the future of Pekin’s advocacy and community-based organizations on Thursday, November 17th. More than ten organizations were in attendance, representing an array of needs in the community.
Event presenters focused on messages which highlighted the spirit of collaboration, and explored how greater education surrounding not-for-profits can positively impact governance of community organizations.
Presenter Bill Fleming remarked associations aimed at improving quality of life are part of our American heritage; and, there is a collective, critical responsibility to help not-for-profits live out their missions.
“We need leaders willing to step up and take leadership roles in our community,” states Fleming.
Attendees were also given opportunity to voice the unique concerns of their organizations in an open discussion, which allowed many to gain new resources. Talent and volunteer recruitment, employee engagement and methods of raising mission awareness were among key issues addressed.
